EXTERNAL CASING PACKER - CRIMPED

The crimped Xpandable Steel external casing packer (ECP-C) is based on proprietary expandable stainless steel technology. The packer comes with a design for setting at low pressure and achieving zonal Isolation in any stage-cementing operation. After its installation, the external casing packer helps prevent fluid migrations in the annulus.

The external casing packer’s expandable sleeve deforms and sets between the casing and the borehole by applying pressure in the casing. It conforms to the real wellbore shape. Sealing with the borehole’s uneven surface is possible thanks to the patented thin layer of bonded elastomer. Two seal lengths are available – 4ft and 8ft.

The external casing packer slips onto a one-piece mandrel by crimping. This patented design keeps casing integrity and provides high sealing and anchoring of the packer ends with the base pipe. There is no welding, no machining operation on the base casing, and there is no hidden internal connection. Both ends are fixed and serve as protection for the expandable sleeve while running in the well.

The packer features an expansion valve that permanently closes the expansion port after the external casing packer installation. The valve activates by reaching a pre-determined pressure level. The expansion valve also provides safety if the external casing packer expands in front of a wash-out. The valve system is fully protected during RIH.

Challenges

  • Robustness during RIH can be worked in doglegs or tight spots
  • Preserve casing integrity after packer setting
  • Seal effectively in oval, out-of-gauge, or irregular borehole
  • Expansion on demand (no waiting time)
  • Simple setting process. Quick installation time
