    SES Aggressive Environment & Customized Patch

    The SES Standard Patch was designed to fit most well conditions while being cost-effective but sometimes, additional challenges can appear.

    To fit aggressive environments such as the presence of H2S, Chloride, NaCl or other chemicals, we can adapt the selection of materials on our products.
    Thanks to our knowledge of various sealing material and tube metallurgy, we can study your well conditions and propose a custom solution. We can also customize the geometry of our products to fit your needs whether higher collapse resistance, low restriction to go-through, high expansion ratio or non-standard patch length.

    The SES Patch technology has a reliable and flexible design which allows us to adapt the remedial operation to whatever particular needs you may have.

    SES V0 Patch

    Some applications require remedial operation with maximum sealing efficiency with high gas pressure. Performing a gas tight sealing is a big challenge compared to water tight solution. Our solution was designed to reach the ISO 14310 V0 criteria. The most difficult criteria of this standard.

    In addition to our labyrinth sealing system, available on standard patch range, we developed a dynamic sealing system allowing the elastomer seal to auto-energize with differential pressure. The result is a gas tight patch able to seal with internal pressure and external pressure through temperature cycles.

    Xpandable Steel Hi Temp PatchSaltel Industries have developped and qualified a new range of products available under 200°C/392°F working conditions, from 4-1/2 in to 13-3/8 in casing sizes.
    Saltel High Temp Patch is a permanent solution used to repair a zone of damaged tubing or casing, to shut-off unwanted peforations, to seal a leaking sliding sleeve, or other remedial operations. This expandable short length of tubular is made from high quality stainless steel with an elastomer outer skin and a profiled sealing system. Saltel HT Patch is run on tubing or drill pipe. At depth the patch is expanded using a high pressure inflatable element, and pushed against the casing to activate the outer seals. The setting tools are then extracted, to leave a pressure resistant inner lining inside the well

    Setting temperature limited to 150°C (300°F). 

    Saltel High Temp Patch is based on the Standard design modified to use high temperature elastomer. The extremities are covered with a mix of Fluoroelastomers FEPM and FKM.

    • Fit for thermal wells up to 392 DegF [200 DegC] continuous temperature. Short term resistance to 480 DegF [250 DegC] Standard ISO 14310 qualified up to 480 DegF [250 DegC]

    Xpandable Patch Extreme High Temp

    Saltel Xpandable Patch Extreme High Temp

    Xpandable Steel Xtreme HT PatchSaltel Xpandable Patch Extreme High Temp is a permanent solution to repair a zone of damaged casing or casing couplings specially designed for Cyclic Steam stimulation (CSS), Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAG-D) and geothermal wells.
    This expandable short length of tubular is made from high quality Stainless steel to resist severe temperature and corrosion conditions. The steel is covered with an expandable packing seal made of Graphite and High temperature PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene).
    This material selection enables it to seal effectively at low and high temperature with different mediums such as water, vapor and nitrogen.
    At depth the Patch is expanded using a high pressure inflatable packer, and pushed against the casing to activate the outer seals. The setting tools are extracted to leave a pressure and temperature resistant inner lining inside the well.

    Saltel PreFRAC Patch

    Restoring damaged Frac Port integrity, leaving large ID access to the well below

    PreFRAC Patch1

    PreFRAC PatchSaltel Patch is designed to meet mature well applications, but is also an answer for downhole issues, in new well applications such as repairing ECP valves, or isolating leaking DV tools and damaged frac ports.

    After running the completion, a frac port may open prematurely. Should it be the case, it will be necessary to seal off the open port, prior to commencing the fracturing.

    In new well configurations, the internal diameter is one major concern for operators, requiring best ID access for running tools or continuing subsequent steps from interrupted hydraulic fracturing operations.

    • Leaking / Parted stage tool
    • Derated annulus packer valve 

    Features

    • The high expansion ratio enables running the Patch with a large clearance.
    • A real time setting controller verifies the ID of the set Patch during the operation.
    • Tubulars are made primarily from 321 stainless steel.
    • Outer skin in hydrogenated nitrile (HNBR) profiled to ensure a good seal. The Patch will set effectively in any intermediate diameter within its range.
    • Standard setting temperature up to 302 degF [150 DegC]

    Saltel Patch is a permanent solution used to repair a zone of damaged tubing or casing, to shut-off unwanted perforations, to seal a leaking sliding sleeve, or other remedial operations. This expandable short length of tubular is made from high quality stainless steel with an elastomer outer skin and a profiled sealing system, the Saltel Patch is run on tubing, drill pipe, or coil tubing. At depth the Patch is expanded using a high pressure inflatable packer, and pushed against the casing to activate the outer seals. The setting tools are extracted to leave a pressure resistant inner lining inside the well.

    Running Procedures

    The Down hole expansion tool is positioned inside the Expandable Steel Patch. The inflatable packer section is then inflated enough to grip the inside of the Patch (not enough to start expansion). The assembly is Run In Hole to the setting zone. The packer is inflated using pressure from surface to expand the top of the Patch, anchoring it in place. The packer is then deflated, run in 3 ft / 1 m, and the next section is expanded. This is repeated as often as necessary until the full length is expanded, and BHA is pulled back to surface.

The steel is not pushed out to a pre-determined diameter by a cone, but is expanded using an inflatable element which will ensure the patch is pushed out to seal effectively against the inside of the existing casing, irrespective of the precise casing ID.

    Saltel Patch Technology

    As optimizing the recovery of hydrocarbon reserves has grown in importance, and effective reservoir management has become increasingly complex, the need for shutting-off unwanted perforations in both production and injection wells has been growing, and requirements to restore casing condition to lengthen well life have become common. Restoring casing integrity , for both casing repair or perforation shut-off, means meeting the seemingly contradictory objectives of obtaining a high pressure resistant seal down hole, while at the same time not significantly reducing the casing diameter nor restricting access to the wellbore below. A wide number of very different solutions have been used, including cement squeezes, injection of gels, straddle packers, and various composite and steel patches, all with varying levels of success. Saltel Industries has developed, tested and trialed the use of a stainless steel Patch which is expanded down hole to create a high pressure inner lining inside the casing. Initially designed for perforation shut-off the technology is also suitable for repairing short lengths of damaged or corroded casing.
